Not many people expect P.K. Subban to be available via trade, but TVA Sports’ Louis Jean is hearing otherwise.

On Friday morning, Jean tweeted that he asked several different teams if Subban’s name had been mentioned in trade talks, and one responded by saying “his name has come up”.

That’s an interesting notion.

This report comes less than two days after Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien threw Subban under the bus for a crucial mistake he made late in Wednesday’s loss to Colorado.

Is Subban likely to be traded before the Feb. 29 trade deadline? Probably not, but never say never.

The 26-year-old is in the first year of his eight-year, $72 million deal ($9 million AAV).

If the Canadiens actually do want to trade Subban, it would be easier to do it now. According to General Fanager, Subban’s no-movement clause kicks-in next season.

It’s important to note that ESPN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun also spoke to teams about Subban’s availability, and he couldn’t find a single team to confirm the Canadiens defenseman was available.

Things are getting ugly in Habs land and there’s still 22 games left in their season.
