Crowded at forward, Blues send Jaskin to minors

Dmitrij Jaskin has been a regular presence for the Blues this year, appearing in 49 games while averaging just under 12 minutes per night.

But now, he’s off to the minors.

The Blues sent the 22-year-old Jaskin to AHL Chicago on Wednesday, after he sat as a healthy scratch for last night’s big win over Central Division-leading Dallas.

While the demotion is interesting, it couldn’t have come as a huge surprise.

The Blues are deep at forward right now, especially with Patrik Berglund and, most recently, Jaden Schwartz returning from long-term injuries.

In Tuesday’s victory, Jaskin was a healthy scratch along with Magnus Paajarvi — who, at one point this season, head coach Ken Hitchcock referred to as one of St. Louis’ best players.

Jaskin, who has three goals and 10 points this year, has been a healthy scratch on a few occasions recently, and hasn’t suited up since Feb. 6, when he played just over seven minutes in a win over Minnesota.
