Jordan Weal’s time in Philly’s been interrupted... before it ever got started, really.
Weal, acquired from L.A. in the Vinny Lecavalier-Luke Schenn deal, will miss the next three weeks with an upper-body injury, GM Ron Hextall announced on Tuesday.
The news comes after Weal played just his third game as a Flyer on Saturday, against New Jersey. Since being acquired on Jan. 6, Weal has been scratched for 14 of Philly’s 17 games.
A talented scorer at the AHL level -- he was last year’s Calder Cup MVP, scoring 22 points in 19 games for Manchester -- Weal hasn’t had a ton of success at the big league level yet. He’s scoreless in 13 career games, all of which have come this season.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Weal moving forward. He turns 24 in April and will be a restricted free agent come July, meaning his chances to show something with the Flyers will be few.
