‘Hawks place Hossa on injured reserve, recall Hinostroza from the minors

A tough break for the Chicago Blackhawks.

The team has placed veteran forward Marian Hossa on injured reserve with a left leg injury.

He was hurt after taking an awkward tumble into the boards after being hip checked by Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm during Saturday’s game (above).

After the game, ‘Hawks captain Jonathan Toews wasn’t too impressed with the hit.

“Not much you can say about those hip checks,” Toews said, per the Sun-Times. “I think they’re always risky. A guy takes a hit low like that, if your skate gets caught in a rut or can’t quite give out the way you want it to, something’s got to give there. More often than not, it doesn’t end well.”

This is the third different time Hossa’s been forced to miss a stretch of games this season.

The 37-year-old missed three games because of a lower-body injury between Nov. 2 and Nov. 6, and he also missed two games with an upper-body injury between Dec. 20 and Dec. 22.

In a corresponding move, the Blackhawks have recalled Vincent Hinostroza.

The 21-year-old has already suited up in four games for the ‘Hawks this season.
