Toews is ready to return; says missing All-Star game was ‘right thing to do’

After missing a game and a half because of an illness/suspension, the Chicago Blackhawks will get captain Jonathan Toews back in their lineup on Thursday night.

Toews left his team’s game against Carolina on Jan. 26 because of an illness, and then opted to skip All-Star weekend in Nashville.

Missing the festivities comes with an automatic one game suspension, which the 27-year-old served in Tuesday’s game against Colorado.

Toews said he wanted to be at the All-Star game, but he insists he did the best thing for himself and his team.

“You want to be there, you want to represent your team and your teammates, and be there for the Hawks fans that are behind you,” Toews said, per the Sun-Times. “It’s always an honor and a special thing to be a part of something like that. But it just got to the point where things were not getting better. I was regressing more and more, and in the bigger picture, it was the right thing to do to make sure I was ready to play and be healthy coming out of the break.”
