Tuesday’s a busy night in the NHL, and it’s just about as hectic in the area of trade rumors.
Pierre LeBrun provided many of the spiciest bits tonight, both at ESPN and during a TSN Insider Trading segment.
Let’s rattle off some of the highlights.
- The splashy move that sent Ryan Johansen to Nashville might not mean that Predators GM David Poile is finished. No shocker that Poile told LeBrun that he’s looking for offense (which is about all Minnesota Wild GM Chuck Fletcher seemed to acknowledge, by the way.)
“I hope it happens from within our club, but we’re totally open [to more trades],” Poile said. “Because we haven’t played as well as we had hoped to play at this point in the season.”
- To some, Patrick Marleau’s trade request is low on the radar ... others might have forgotten about it altogether. It turns out that it isn’t necessarily just a thing of the past, though.
LeBrun reports that Marleau’s agent is still keeping talks active, although the Sharks aren’t straining to make something happen by the trade deadline. It may be something that isn’t settled for San Jose until the offseason.
- Both LeBrun and TSN’s Bob McKenzie indicate that the market on Jonathan Drouin is stacked with suitors, yet the situation itself is fuzzy. There could be as many as 12 teams that were in serious discussions about a deal. McKenzie believes a move is just as possible to happen within a few days ... or not at all, at least until the summer.
Moral of the story/stories? Keep your eyes on news, even if it’s tough to tell if anything will happen in the immediate future.
