More sadness in St. Louis

The St. Louis Blues may eventually provide much-needed comfort for jilted St. Louis sports fans, but not just yet.

Thursday was a deeply miserable night for the Blues. Let’s rattle things off in bullet points.


  • The Hurricanes beat them 4-1.
  • Brian Elliott was pulled from the Blues’ net, and it ... wasn’t a happy scene.
  • As you can see from the video above, Alexander Steen may be the latest entrant to the Blues’ bursting injury list. (They aren’t sure how bad it is yet.)
  • Ken Hitchcock sounds pretty defeated.

Let’s not pile on too much, though.

The Blues have shown some serious toughness in keeping their heads above water despite a sometimes-absurd deluge of injuries. They’re relatively comfortable in third place in the division, even if that presents the unsettling scenario of facing the Blackhawks (if the playoffs began today) or Stars (if Chicago bumps Dallas down).

Potential matchups are a small concern right now for a team “running on fumes.”
