Tough day to be a Minnesota sports fan: Parise’s goal not enough as Devils outlast Wild

After the Vikings heartbreaking loss to the Seahawks in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs, it was the Wild’s turn to disappoint.

Zach Parise scored his first career goal against his former team, but it wasn’t enough as the Devils beat the Wild, 2-1, on Sunday.

The two teams combined for no goals and 20 shots in the first two periods.

But things changed in the third period.

Adam Henrique opened the scoring at the 1:21 mark before Parise tied it up less than two minutes later:

3:21 later, Jon Merrill put the Devils back in front with his first goal in 82 games.

After getting a big win against the division-leading Stars on Saturday, the Wild were disappointed about their performance in this one.

The Wild are three points behind the Blues, six points behind the ‘Hawks and 10 points behind the Stars in the Central Division.

The win puts an end to New Jersey’s three-game losing streak, and allows them to jump back into the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
