Yes, the Oilers really did score three goals on themselves last night (Video)

The Edmonton Oilers looked good through two periods in Friday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

They were able to build a 2-0 lead heading into the final frame and it looked like they’d be two points closer to a playoff spot.

But then the third period happened.

In a “you have to see it to believe it” moment, the Oilers scored not one, not two, but three own goals in the third.

“I’ve never seen three go in like that,” said Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, per the Edmonton Sun. “We were kind of dictating the play for most of the game, so that was tough to swallow.”

Brandon Davidson gave Tampa Bay some life after deflecting a Nikita Kucherov shot past Cam Talbot (above).

Just under 12 minutes later, Taylor Hall buried a Victor Hedman pass by Talbot:

And Darnell Nurse completed the trifecta just over one minute later:

“When the only goals that they score go off of our guys, there is nothing you can do in games like that. I thought we played well enough that we should have won that game, but they got the bounces and we didn’t,” Talbot told the Sun.

“It’s extremely frustrating. Especially where we are in the standings. We need every point that we can get. When points slip away like that when you are doing the right things for most of the game, that is tough to swallow.”
