Some scary news to pass along.
Red Wings prospect Alden Hirschfeld collapsed on his team’s bench during yesterday’s game between the Grand Rapids Griffins and Milwaukee Admirals.
The game was halted while the on-site medical staff tended to Hirschfeld.
Here’s how MLive.com described the incident:
The Griffins were skating against Milwaukee when play was stopped with 6:19 left as Hirschfeld, in the middle of the Griffins bench, bent over and dropped to the floor.
Griffins coach Todd Nelson and players immediately waved to officials who stopped play as Van Andel Arena crowd of 7,514 fell hush.
After nearly 10 minutes, Hirschfeld, who was sitting up on the bench, was carted via stretcher from the bench across the ice and into an awaiting ambulance.
After the game, the Griffins announced that Hirschfeld suffered a seizure, but that he was in stable condition and resting in hospital.
