Ovechkin scores the OT winner against the Rangers

The Washington Capitals seemed to be in control of Saturday’s game against the Rangers.

They entered the third period with a 2-0 lead, but that’s when the craziness began.

The Rangers scored three goals in 7:17 to jump out to a 3-2 lead.

Did you really expect the Capitals to go away quietly though?

Nicklas Backstrom tied the game with just six seconds remaining in regulation.

In overtime, Capitals defenseman Nate Schmidt came up with a huge save at one end of the ice and Ovechkin went the other way before beating Henrik Lundqvist for the 20th time in his career (above).

The celebration was pretty good too.

Ovechkin’s second goal of the game was the 499th of his career. (here’s his first).

The Rangers have had a hard time keeping the puck out of the net in the dying moments of periods in the last little while, and it happened two more times on Saturday.
