Sitting atop the Atlantic Division has its perks for the architect of the Florida Panthers.

The team announced that it has signed General Manager Dale Tallon to a multi-year contract extension.

According to the Miami Herald, the extension is for three years.

Tallon was in the final year of his contract.

“We are very pleased that Dale has agreed to sign a multi-year contract extension,” Florida Panthers Executive Chairman Peter Luukko said in a team release. “Dale has done an outstanding job building our roster over the last six years. This extension brings added stability to our organization and hockey operations department.”

The 65-year-old was named the team’s GM on May 17, 2010. The only player who’s still on the roster from when he took over is Dmitry Kulikov.

Under Tallon, the team has drafted several core players like Nick Bjugstad (2010), Jonathan Huberdeau (2011), and Aleksander Barkov (2013).

The club also announced that Tom Rowe, who had been serving as the head coach of Florida’s AHL affiliate in Portland, has been named Tallon’s assistant.

“Bringing Tom to Florida to complement Dale will solidify our exciting upwards trajectory as a franchise,” said Luukko. “As everyone around the league knows, the nature and responsibilities of an NHL front office are ever-expanding. With their combined knowledge of the game and business of hockey, Dale and Tom will be able to ensure the future of the Panthers is bright.”

Portland assistant coach Scott Allen will take over the head coaching duties, per the Sun Sentinel.
