The injuries are starting to mount for the Washington Capitals.
They’re already without Brooks Orpik and John Carlson, and on Wednesday night, they lost Jay Beagle to an upper-body injury.
On Thursday, the team placed Beagle on injured reserve.

Beagle will require surgery and he’s going to be out for “an extended period of time” according to Barry Trotz.
The news wasn’t positive for Carlson (lower body) either, as he won’t be playing in tonight’s game against Carolina. He is expected to miss “a few (more) games,” per Trotz.
The 25-year-old has already been forced to miss each of his team’s two previous contests.
The Capitals recalled Aaron Ness from the minors to replace Carlson on the roster.
The injuries have forced Washington to get a little creative with their cap situation.

Caps place Jay Beagle on IR
Caps place Brooks Orpik on LTIR (eligible to be activated anytime)
According to General Fanager, the Caps get almost $5.5 million in relief by putting Orpik on LTIR.
The transactions leave Washington with over $4.6 million in total cap space.
