Even after beating Tampa Bay in a shootout last night, the Canadiens are just 4-10-1 since the injured Price last played. But as much as the Canadiens could use some help right now, this start is even more important for Scrivens. Before the trade, the 29-year-old goaltender had been stuck in the minors after struggling as the lowly 2014-15 Edmonton Oilers’ starting netminder.
Scrivens previously had a 1.97 GAA and .931 save percentage in 19 games with Los Angeles and posted a 2.69 GAA and .915 save percentage in 20 contests with Toronto in 2012-13, so he has found success elsewhere, albeit in a more limited role.
The Florida Panthers will counter with Roberto Luongo.
— Detroit’s Jimmy Howard will be going for his first win since Dec. 3 tonight. The Winnipeg Jets will likely counter with Connor Hellebuyck based on the morning skate, but the team hasn’t officially named a starter.
— Edmonton will go with Cam Talbot between the pipes. It’s up in the air who the Kings will start. If they turn to Jonathan Quick, they would be asking the 29-year-old goalie to play for a third time in four days, but Quick is coming off of a 27-save shutout, so it’s still a possibility.
— Arizona will start Anders Lindback on Tuesday. It’s not known who Chicago will go with, but Corey Crawford has made eight straight starts so we’ll see if they stick with him or give Scott Darling some work.
