The Boston Bruins have had more than their fair share of bad news lately, but at least it’s created an opportunity for one of their promising prospects.
With David Krejci expected to miss weeks with an upper-body injury, the Bruins announced that he’s been placed on the injured reserve list. Seth Griffith, 22, has been summoned in a corresponding move.
Griffith is in his third season with AHL Providence and has stood out with 10 goals and 27 points in 24 contests in 2015-16. He hasn’t played with the Boston Bruins yet this season, but he did record 10 points in 30 games while averaging a modest 13:26 minutes with them in 2014-15.
Although it might be too much to hope for him to single-handedly fill the void left by Krejci, the Bruins could certainly use a boost right now. They’ve dropped three straight games and have scored just four goals in that span.
Boston will play against the Senators tonight after suffering a 3-1 loss to Ottawa on Sunday.
