Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane is the subject of a sex offense investigation stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred at a Buffalo hotel on Sunday morning, according to the Buffalo News and other outlets.

WGR 550 cites sources “both inside and outside the Buffalo Police rank” that a 20-year-old woman is making the claim.

Note that Kane, 24, has not been charged with a crime at this time, but an investigation is reportedly in its early stages.

The Buffalo News reports that Kane is currently represented by attorney Paul J. Cambria, who also represented Patrick Kane.

The Buffalo Sabres released a statement regarding the matter, which the Buffalo News’ Tim Graham shared on Twitter:

“We take the allegation made today against Evander Kane very seriously. We are gathering facts (and have) been in touch with the NHL and Evander’s representatives. Until we have more information we will not have any additional comment.”

Kane’s agent Craig Oster has not yet responded to requests for comment from the Buffalo News as of this writing.

Evander Kane was not present at practice on Sunday morning for “personal reasons.”

The Sabres’ next game takes place in Buffalo against the Washington Capitals on Monday.
