Pending unrestricted free agent Mikkel Boedker and the Arizona Coyotes haven’t spoken about a contract extension, but those discussions will take place in the near future, according to General Manager Don Maloney.

“We have not had any meaningful dialogue at all, quite frankly, since his one-year contract,” Maloney said, per AZ Central. “So we’ll start up in January and see where we’re at.”

The two sides are no strangers to negotiation.

Boedkker, who was an RFA after last season, signed a one-year, $3.75 million deal with the Coyotes during the summer.

A long-term deal was discussed at that time, but both parties opted for a bridge deal.

The short-term gamble seems to be paying off for Boedker, as he’s on pace to set career-highs for goals and points in 2015-16.

The 26-year-old has 11 goals and 23 points in 33 games this season.

“It’s going to sort itself out,” Boedker said. “I don’t know where the team stands and where I stand. There’s been no conversations. I haven’t heard anything. I’ve just been focused on trying to help the team and trying to make sure that I could help them as much as possible and obviously help myself become a better player.”

Boedker isn’t the only player Maloney will have to lock up.

The Coyotes currently have nine potential unrestricted free agents and six restricted free agents according to GeneralFanager.com.
