That’s now five straight losses for the slumping Habs

Goaltending wasn’t the issue Tuesday for the Montreal Canadiens. Scoring was, though.

And while Montreal’s head coach Michel Therrien recently called out his goaltenders -- remember, their star netminder Carey Price is out with injury -- it’s worth noting the Habs have scored a total of just five goals in their last five games, all losses, with the most recent defeat coming against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.

The Habs have now lost five in a row.

The Wild got goals from Jason Pominville in the first period and Charlie Coyle early in the third, then held on for a 2-1 win. Darcy Kuemper made 24 saves for Minnesota.

Mike Condon gave up only two goals on 22 shots faced. In the previous two games combined, the Habs had been ventilated for a total of 11 goals. But their inability to score has been problematic for a while now.

Max Pacioretty is without a goal in five games. David Desharnais is without a point in six games. P.K. Subban has points in three of his last five games, but has only one goal on the season.

Since the end of November, the Habs have been in a free fall with losses in 10 of their last 12 games.

Price is the backbone of Montreal’s success but he’s been out since Nov. 25, and had played in only five games between then and Oct. 27, leaving the Canadiens with the goalie tandem of Condon and Dustin Tokarski.
