Patrick Kane scores tying goal and shootout winner vs. Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres nearly pulled it off.

With 3:20 remaining in regulation, Ryan O’Reilly gave the Sabres a 2-1 lead over the Blackhawks.

Unfortunately for Buffalo, their lack of discipline cost them.

With just under 2:30 remaining in regulation, the Sabres were called for holding (Josh Gorges) and hi-sticking (Rasmus Ristolainen) in the same sequence.

After Ryan O’Reilly intercepted a pass in his own zone and missed Chicago’s empty net by a few feet, Patrick Kane tied the game during a 6-on-3 man-advantage with 33.5 seconds left to force overtime.

Right before Kane put the puck in the net, Cody Franson took another penalty and forced Buffalo’s penalty killing unit back onto the ice.

Buffalo was able to kill Franson’s penalty and they eventually got a power play of their own in overtime.

After neither side was able to capitalize on their opportunities, the game went into a shootout.

That’s when Patrick Kane did this:

As you can imagine, the Sabres weren’t impressed with themselves after this one.

Buffalo will enjoy a week off before facing the Bruins next Saturday.

The ‘Hawks host the Sharks tomorrow.
