Habs hope Stars align in first game of long road trip

Things haven’t been going well for the Montreal Canadiens.

Sure, they’re still first in the Atlantic division and second in the Eastern Conference, but injuries to star goalie Carey Price and right winger Brendan Gallagher have really hurt the Habs.

The Canadiens have dropped six of their last seven contests, and a team that seemed to be able to score at will, can’t find the back of the net anymore.

They’ve scored more than two goals just just once since Nov. 28 (nine games) and they’ve totaled just 13 goals in eight December games.

“I can’t explain why we’re not scoring, but I know we have to find a way,” captain Max Pacioretty said after Thursday’s 3-0 loss to Los Angeles.

After sending forward Charles Hudon back to the minors on Friday morning, the Canadiens recalled prized prospect Michael McCarron.

The 6'6, 231 pound forward played center in his final year of junior and all season with St. John’s in the AHL, but he’ll play on the wing tonight.

Montreal will face a formidable opponent to kick-off their season-long eight-game road trip, as they take on the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.

The Stars have lost two of their last three games, including a 3-1 loss to Calgary on Thursday night.

“We’ve just got to get back to our game and take a step back to remember we’re a good team,” center Jason Spezza said, per the Dallas Morning News. “We haven’t played as well in the last couple of weeks, but the results haven’t been terrible. We’re close, but we’re just not putting together a full 60 minutes.”
