Tippett tears into Coyotes -- Lindback included -- after allowing seven goals in loss to Columbus

Suffice to say Dave Tippett wasn’t too happy with last night’s 7-5 home loss to lowly Columbus.

“We’re a poor, poor team with the puck, we don’t defend very well and we got poor goaltending,” Tippett said, per Arizona Sports. “That leads to five, six, seven goals a night against. You’re never going to win in this league playing like that.”

“Their goaltender was struggling just as much as ours. It’s just disgusting.”

OK!

While there’s plenty to dig into here, it’s definitely worth noting Tippett took clear aim at Anders Lindback, who allowed four goals on 10 shots and exited after this ugly one:

Lindback, of course, was making his first start in the post-Mike Smith era. The Coyotes’ usual No. 1 netminder is out 8-10 weeks following core muscle surgery.

Lindback’s stinker couldn’t have come at a worse time (for him, anyway). Yesterday, we passed along AZ Central’s piece in which Coyotes GM Don Maloney expressed interesting in adding a goalie -- especially if Lindback couldn’t get the job done.

“We’re looking at everything and anything,” Maloney explained. “We are looking. If there’s a way to get a top-end goaltender that’s a long-term value to the franchise, we’re willing to pay up an asset for that.”

It’s pretty obvious Maloney doesn’t want a repeat of last year, where poor goaltending -- most of which was on Smith -- played a big role in a disastrous campaign.

The Coyotes finished 29th in the NHL and suffered a lot of losses along the way, something the organization obviously wants to avoid this year with future faces of the franchise Max Domi and Anthony Duclair in the mix.
