With recent struggles scoring and subsequently two wins in eight games this month, the Montreal Canadiens have recalled towering forward Michael McCarron.

The Habs announced McCarron, selected 25th overall in 2013, will join the team in Dallas.

A rookie in the American Hockey League, the six-foot-six-inch, 231-pound centre has had a productive season to this point with the St. John’s IceCaps, scoring 13 goals and 24 points in 28 games.

This summer, Habs GM Marc Bergevin made a point of saying there was room in Montreal for a young player, but it would ultimately be up to that individual to prove they belonged at that level.

Based on McCarron’s numbers in the AHL, and given the physical tools he possesses, it seems he’s earned this call to the big league.

The Habs could certainly use a spark.

They’re without star goalie, Carey Price, due to injury after it was announced at the end of last month he’d be out for a minimum of six weeks. The losses have been piling up, with six in the last eight games. More troubling? In seven of the eight games this month, they’ve been held to two or fewer goals.

They were shut out against the L.A. Kings on Thursday and their schedule doesn’t get any easier as they visit the high-scoring Dallas Stars on Saturday.
