The incident occurred in the first period of Friday’s game in Anaheim, which Carolina won 5-1.
Thompson received an elbowing major and a game misconduct for the hit, while Faulk was able to stay in the game.
Here’s what the Ducks forward had to say for himself after the game:
"It's one of those things where it happened fast. I wasn't trying to hit his head." - @NateThompson44 #CARvsANAhttps://t.co/q6f6YVTy5r

The 31-year-old has been suspended before. When he was a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Thompson sat for two games after he delivered a check to the head of Matt D’Agostini.
His hearing will take place on Monday.
