The Philadelphia Flyers have loaned defenseman Andrew MacDonald to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL.

With Radko Gudas returning from his three-game suspension, Philadelphia didn’t need to keep MacDonald around anymore.

The 29-year-old suited up in one game during his recent call up.

MacDonald is in the second year of a six-year, $30 million contract he signed with the Flyers back in 2014.

Now that he’s back in the AHL, he returns to having the highest cap hit buried in the minors.

There’s a good chance MacDonald will be back in the NHL soon.

The Flyers are off until Tuesday and since he’s been a healthy scratch in back-to-back games, the team probably just wants to keep him sharp.

With Mark Streit and Luke Schenn still sidelined, Philadelphia only has six healthy defensemen on the roster.
