Mats Zuccarello was one of the pleasant surprises of October and November. He collected 21 points in his first 20 games and was on his way to having a career year.
Unfortunately for the Rangers, their offense has dried up.
Zuccarello has just one point in his last nine games and none in his last four.
“We have to find the way, and especially me,” Zuccarello said, per the NY Post. “I’m not playing well. I don’t know what it is, but I have to do a better job of getting to the net and a better job around the net.”
The 28-year-old isn’t the only one who’s failing to pull his weight offensively.
Big winger Kevin Hayes has just one assist in his last eight contests, and according to The Post’s Larry Brooks, he might watch Friday’s game, against Edmonton, from the press box.
Chris Kreider, who the Rangers definitely expected more from this season, has just one goal and one assist in his last 11 contests.
Star sniper Rick Nash hasn’t scored in his last six.
I can keep going on and on, but I think you get the point.
Vigneault has tried juggling his lines, but that hasn’t seemed to work either.
Since Nov. 25, New York is 2-5-1 and they’ve scored a total of 15 goals during that span.
“We’ve had a better possession game and have spent more time in the other team’s end, but we haven’t had as many opportunities and definitely not as many goals,” Vigneault told The Post. “We need to do a better job of capitalizing.”
