Patrick Kane’s point streak continued in spectacular fashion Friday, as he extended it to 25 games with another beautiful goal.
Kane matches Sidney Crosby’s 25-game point streak set back in 2010-11. Beyond the individual accomplishment, his Chicago Blackhawks emerged from the special occasion with an important victory.
The Blackhawks shut out their division rivals, the Winnipeg Jets, by a final score of 2-0. The win puts Chicago, the defending Stanley Cup champs, on level ground with the St. Louis Blues for second place in the Central Division with 36 points.
“It’s not really important, but I think it’s one of those things when you realize what elite company you’re in, when you’re with these great players that have had these great streaks, it definitely humbles you,” said Kane, as per NHL.com.
“I obviously feel honored and very fortunate to be involved with names like those.”
Kane’s goal -- he buried a perfect shot top shelf in the second period -- gave the Blackhawks a two-goal lead they would never relinquish. Corey Crawford made 25 saves, while captain Jonathan Toews opened the scoring on the power play in the first period. It would turn out to be the eventual winner.
