Kuznetsov, Oshie score shootout goals to end Wings’ three-game win streak

Like the first two meetings of the season between these two teams, Tuesday’s game between the Capitals and Red Wings was close till the end.

The Capitals opened the scoring just 43 seconds into the game when Justin Williams beat Jimmy Howard to record his 600th career point.

Super rookie Dylan Larkin made a sweet pass to set up Henrik Zetterberg’s fifth goal of the season and tied the game 1-1 in the process.

The Wings took the lead on a second period goal by Tomas Jurco before Capitals star sniper Alex Ovechkin tied the game with under 10 minutes remaining in the third period.

Jimmy Howard kept the Red Wings was solid throughout the game, as he turned aside 38 of 40 shots, but he couldn’t come up with a save on shootout attempts by T.J. Oshie and Evgeny Kuznetsov.

The loss puts an end to Detroit’s three-game winning streak.

Washington just doesn’t lose in regulation anymore.

The Capitals are 7-0-1 in their eight games and they haven’t lost in regulation time since Nov. 19.

The win gives Washington 40 points on the season. They now sit atop the Metropolitan division.
