Channeling Forsberg? Mitchell scores OT-winner for Avs

On a night where fans and the Colorado Avalanche celebrated the days of Peter Forsberg, Joe Sakic and Patrick Roy, someone did something those icons never had a chance to do.

That would be scoring a goal in the still-quite-new 3-on-3 OT format.

John Mitchell did so for the Avalanche in a 2-1 OT win against the Minnesota Wild that may have been a little lacking in electricity otherwise. (You don’t see a ton of games where both teams combine for just 40 shots on goal.)

Still, that bit of 3-on-3 was fun and allowed fans to go home happy.

A lot of the word boring floating around …

Then again, the Avs legends on hand for the 20th Anniversary Team celebration probably experienced a few nights like that in the meat of “The Dead Puck Era.”
