The Calgary Flames discussed unfortunate news on Thursday: goalie prospect Jon Gillies needs season-ending hip surgery.
(The window of recovery is placed at four-to-six months, to be more precise.)
Gillies, 21, seemed to aggravate a past hip issue during a play that Flames GM Brad Treliving described as seemingly “routine.”
The towering netminder is seemingly taking the situation as well as one could expect.

Gillies (cont): "I absolutely hate leaving teammates in the middle of the season, (but) I think my body just said it’s time to get it done.”

Considering Calgary’s big-club troubles in net, the Flames must hope this is a short-term pain, long-term gain situation.
