Through 40 minutes, the Flyers had a 2-0 lead.
It looked like they’d put an end to their three-game losing streak, and they did, but not before Carolina came back in the third period to force overtime.
In the extra frame, it was rookie Shayne Gostisbehere who blasted a one-timer by ‘Canes goalie Eddie Lack to give Philadelphia the win.
“The third period wasn’t our best period . . . but it was huge for us to get the two points,” Gostisbehere said after the game. “I’m still pinching myself a little bit to get such a big goal.”
Veteran Mark Streit has been productive since joining the team in 2013, but his injury has opened the door for a young Gostisbehere to get meaningful minutes in the NHL.
The 22-year-old has two goals, three points and 12 shots on goal in five games since his call up from the minors. Both his goals have come on the man-advantage.
