Pittsburgh’s slow start to the season has been a hot topic around the league.
Players have openly complained about the team’s performance, while Sidney Crosby’s lack of production (nine points in 18 games) has been one of the early season surprises of ’15-16.
Saturday’s 4-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils may have been a low point in their season, but Pittsburgh was able to bounce back and beat a good Minnesota Wild team on Tuesday night.
Despite the struggles, the veterans on the team, like Kris Letang, are keeping things in perspective.
“What’s our record?” Letang told the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette. “Exactly. I feel comfortable with the team we have. We’re not playing the right way, but we’re still 11-7. Imagine [what it will be] when we’re going to play the right way.”
If the playoffs started today, the Penguins would qualify as the first Wild Card team.
They’re currently eight points behind the Rangers for top spot in the Metropolitan division, but with roughly five months remaining in the regular season, they’re hardly out of the race.
There’s no better time to get on a run than on a long home stand.
Including their last game against Minnesota, the Penguins will play four straight and five of their next six games at the CONSOL Energy Center.
