Matt Duchene has finally addressed reports that said he was on the trading block.

Predictably, Duchene doesn’t want to leave the only NHL team he’s ever known, but he understands that the rumors are part of the business.

“It’s part of hockey. I’m not thinking about it too much,” Duchene told the Denver Post. “I’m an Av today, and I want to be an Av as long as possible. At the same time, it’s a business, and I understand that part of it. That’s my standpoint. I’m just focusing on my game.”

If his recent performance is any indication, it looks like Duchene is as focused as he’s ever been.

After starting the season with just two points in his first 10 games, the 24-year-old has put up 12 points in his last seven games.

But even though he’s turned his season around, Duchene knows how unpredictable the hockey world can be.

“I’m pretty confident — or hopeful, anyway — that I will continue to be an Av in the near future,” he said. “But you never know. This business is very unpredictable.”
