The New York Rangers have been almost unbeatable of late and although Saturday’s 2-1 shootout victory in Ottawa wasn’t the prettiest of their eight straight wins, they’ll gladly take it.
The Rangers got an early goal from Chris Kreider to take a 1-0 lead in the first period, but Erik Karlsson answered just over four minutes later.
Karlsson’s goal was a beauty, but the clumsy celebration is what had people talking.
Things got heated in the second period when Sens forward Zack Smith made contact with Derek Stepan’s head on this hit:
Following the hit, Kreider and Smith dropped the gloves, but it was Kreider who picked up the extra two-minute instigator penalty and 10-minute misconduct.
The game remained tied after regulation and overtime.
Bobby Ryan and Mats Zuccarello each scored in the first two rounds of the shootout before Dan Boyle ended it in the third round.
Stepan summed up the game perfectly:
