Palmieri’s OT winner pushes Devils by Canucks in penalty-filled affair

A game between the Devils and Canucks may not scream “rivalry” but Sunday’s game was a chippy, penalty-filled affair.

The two teams combined for 83 penalty minutes (34 for Vancouver, 49 for New Jersey), four fighting majors, two 10-minute misconducts and a game misconduct.

A good chunk of those infractions came on Adam Larsson’s hit on Canucks forward Jared McCann.

Larsson received a five minute major for interference and a game misconduct for the hit.

Both fights occurred in the second period, as Jordin Tootoo and Derek Dorsett dropped the gloves first and Bobby Farnham and Jake Virtanen fought just over two minutes later.

There was some actual skill displayed in this game.

Devils goalie Keith Kinkaid made a great arm save on Radim Vrbata and there was some 3-on-3 overtime.

Kyle Palmieri scored the game-winner after Dan Hamhuis took an interference penalty (surprise, surprise) in overtime.

Things remained heated after the game.

Jordin Tootoo told reporters how he really felt about Canucks forward Alex Burrows.

The Devils have won four of their last five contests while Vancouver has lost three straight.
