Capuano hopes things ‘will turn around’ for Strome and Nelson

Ryan Strome went from playing on a line with John Tavares at the beginning of the season to being demoted to the American Hockey League on Friday.

The demotion should certainly be a wake-up call for the 22-year-old (and his wallet).

Strome has one goal and five points in 12 games in 2015-16, and he hasn’t produced a ton of quality scoring chances either.

Another young forward, Brock Nelson, has also struggled this season.

Nelson remains with the club, but he wasn’t exempt from being singled-out by head coach Jack Capuano.

“Those two are definitely fighting it right now, no question,” Capuano said of Strome and Nelson. “When you lack confidence, things seem to snowball on you.”

For now, it looks like Steve Bernier will be the beneficiary of Strome’s struggles. The 30-year-old should see more playing as the team’s 12th forward.
