Well, at least Boston scored a goal this time.

The Bruins, who were shut out in all three games against the Caps last season, managed to muster one marker but nothing more as Washington cruised to a 4-1 victory at Verizon on Thursday night.

Defenseman John Carlson led the way with a goal and an assist, while Braden Holtby -- who, last year, became the second goaltender since 1968 and the first in Capitals history to have three shutouts against the Bruins in one season -- stopped 30 of 31 shots for the win, the eighth of his career against the B’s.

Brooks Laich, Karl Alzner and Alex Ovechkin also scored for Washington, who moved to 9-3-0 on the year.

For Boston, tonight’s loss was its second in a row, and a rare instance in which the high-octane offense failed to produce.

None of the team’s top scorers -- David Krejci, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, Loui Eriksson -- managed to hit the scoresheet and, in an ugly outing, Eriksson finished minus-2 with no shots on goal.

Tuukka Rask was hardly to blame on the night, but three goals allowed on 30 shots won’t do much for his shaky numbers on the season, especially after he gave up five goals on 19 shots in his last outing against Dallas.

Tonight’s game was the first of a three-game road swing for the Bruins, who will play in Montreal on Saturday before finishing against the Islanders on Sunday.

Washington, meanwhile, will host Toronto on Saturday, looking for its 10th win of the campaign.
