Slumping Flames shake up lines, Brodie could make season debut

Eventful morning skate for Calgary in advance of tonight’s game in Ottawa against the Senators.

First, the big news -- defenseman T.J. Brodie could make his season debut after breaking his hand during the exhibition campaign.

A 25-minute-a-night guy that scored a career-best 41 points last year, Brodie skated alongside captain Mark Giordano on a pairing this morning, and would definitely help a Flames team that’s allowing 3.89 goals per game this year, second-most in the NHL.

But it’s not only the defense that’s struggling.

Calgary’s offense has sputtered this season and, as a result, head coach Bob Hartley went to the ol’ line blender this morning.

Joe Colborne, one of the few good Flames skaters from Monday’s loss to the Islanders, moves into Johnny Gaudreau’s spot on the top line next to Sean Monahan and Jiri Hudler.

Gaudreau, Calgary’s top scorer this year, will now play with Sam Bennett and Michael Frolik, presumably in a move to spark the pair -- neither has a goal this season and Bennett has just one point through eight games.

Bennett’s also getting a look on a power play unit with Gaudreau, Monahan, Dennis Wideman and Dougie Hamilton.
