Goalie nods: Rangers give Raanta second start in less than a week

For the second time in less than a week, Antti Raanta will be between the pipes for the New York Rangers.

After serving as the team’s backup in the first six games of the season, Raanta blanked the Sharks last Monday to collect his first win with his new team.

The Rangers appear to be so impressed with their backup that they’re willing to give starter Henrik Lundqvist another night off in the second half of a back-to-back situation on Sunday.

Lundqvist probably needs the rest. The veteran faced 48 shots in Saturday’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Expect the Flames to counter with Jonas Hiller.

Elsewhere...

-Darcy Kuemper will look for his first win of the season for Minnesota. The Jets are expected to go with Ondrej Pavelec, who has a 2-2-1 record to go along with 2.82 goals-against-average and a .916 save percentage.

-Jonathan Quick should be between the pipes for the Kings. He’s currently on a three-game winning streak and has a 14-1-5 record against Edmonton in his career. The Oilers will go with Cam Talbot. The 28-year-old has a 2-3-0 record with a 2.22 goals-against-average and a .918 save percentage in six games.
