According to MLive.com, the Detroit Red Wings have recalled defenseman Alexey Marchenko from AHL Grand Rapids. In a corresponding move, the club placed Brad Richards (back) on short-term IR.
Marchenko played for Grand Rapids on Thursday and Friday, so Saturday’s tilt against the Canucks will be his third in three nights.
The Wings needed a body because both Kyle Quincey and Mike Green are nursing injuries. The only way they could’ve recalled someone from the minors was by moving another player off the roster.
Both defensemen were injured during Friday’s game against Calgary and won’t be available for Saturday’s tilt against Vancouver.
Green suffered a shoulder injury after being hit by Josh Jooris, while Quincey took a shoulder to the head from Sam Bennett.
As for Richards, he missed the game against Calgary and there’s still no timetable for his return.
Brad Richards will have tests on his back on Monday, Ken Holland said.

The Wings, of course, are already without star center Pavel Datsyuk.
