St. Louis Blues forward Jaden Schwartz will be out for at least 12 weeks following ankle surgery, the team announced.

Schwartz was taken to hospital earlier this week after he fell and slipped into the goalpost during a practice drill.

The team said he will be re-evaluated in 12 weeks.

The Blues’ depth will be tested, as they are already without Paul Stastny, Robby Fabbri, Patrik Berglund and Kevin Shattenkirk.

Stastny will be out at least five weeks after being placed on IR because of a broken foot, Fabbri is on the injured list because of a concussion, Berglund is on LTIR because of off-season shoulder surgery while Shattenkirk has missed the last four games due to a lower-body injury.

At least one beat reporter believes the Blues could use some of their depth on defense to acquire a forward.

St. Louis begins a five-game home stand on Saturday night against the Islanders. They won’t play another road game until Nov. 4.
