It’s no secret that the NHL is taking a hard look at expanding from 30 to 32 teams in the near future, but as commissioner Gary Bettman already pointed out, nothing is guaranteed.

It looks like the hockey world won’t have to wait much longer for a decision, as one should be coming before the end of the year according to the prospective owner of Las Vegas’ potential NHL franchise, Bill Foley.

“We’re done with the vetting process, and we’re just waiting to hear from the NHL what’s next,” Foley told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I would expect we’ll hear something to happen in December and whether we can move forward.”

The league’s executive committee will be meeting in Pebble Beach, California on Dec. 7 and Dec. 8.

Foley’s group has already managed to sell over 13,500 season tickets for potential home dates down the road, and the loyalty of the fans isn’t lost on him.

“What’s amazing is that I think we’ve had 10 people ask for their money back,” Foley said. “I’m so impressed by the loyalty of the Las Vegas fans and the faith they have in us.”

We’ll soon find out if their loyalty pays off.
