Steve Mason will miss tonight’s Flyers home opener due to a personal family matter, GM Ron Hextall told reporters this morning.
That means Michal Neuvirth will be between the pipes against the Panthers.
Neuvirth allowed three goals on 22 shots in Saturday’s 7-1 loss in Sunrise. Mason started that game, only to surrender four goals on eight shots. He was replaced by Neuvirth just 6:46 into the contest.
Jason LaBarbera will back up Neuvirth this evening.
It’s also possible Sam Gagner could get into the Flyers’ lineup.
The Flyers (0-1-1) held a players-only meeting after being blown out by the Panthers.
“It’s Game 2, and you lose 7-1, I think we’d better have a little talk here,” veteran Mark Streit told CSN Philly.
#Flyers aren't sharing any details on Steve Mason's absence, but are asking for privacy with sensitive family matter. Best wishes to him.
