The Vancouver Canucks got some good news on the injury front, as Jacob Markstrom is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a hamstring injury.
The 25-year-old has been unable to suit up in either of Vancouver’s first two games, but it looks like the initial reports of him being out for three weeks were premature.
Despite the progress he’s made, coach Willie Desjardins said that Markstrom won’t travel to Anaheim for Monday’s game against the Ducks
While Markstrom is out, the Canucks will probably lean heavily on starter Ryan Miller.
After two solid starts, Vancouver’s coaching staff decided to give Miller a rest during Sunday’s practice. The 35-year-old faced 68 shots in the first two games of the season.
Defenseman Alex Edler, who missed Saturday’s game against Calgary because of flu-like symptoms, will travel to California with his teammates. He could return to the lineup on Monday.
The news wasn’t as good for forward Chris Higgins.
Higgins broke his foot in a preseason game against the San Jose Sharks. The 32-year-old has already missed three weeks of action, and it looks like he’ll be forced to miss three more.
Desjardins also says Markstrom coming along quicker than expected & Higgins is roughly out for scheduled 4-6 week recovery period.
