Eddie Lack has signed a two-year contract extension worth $5.5 million with the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.

“Eddie has been a great addition to our locker room,” General Manager Ron Francis said in a release. “We feel that we have a very solid tandem in net for this season and are excited that Eddie will remain a part of that picture beyond this year.”

The extension will pay him $2.5 million in 2016-17 and $3 million in 2017-18. He will make $1.15 million in the final year of his current deal.

The ‘Canes acquired Lack from Vancouver on Jun. 27 in hopes of improving their depth in goal.

Even though head coach Billy Peters announced that Cam Ward would be the team’s starting goaltender for their regular season opener, Lack should see quite a few starts over the course of the year.

The 27-year-old had an 18-13-4 record with a 2.45 goals-against-average and a .921 save percentage in 41 games with the Canucks last season.
