Wings sign ’15 first-rounder Svechnikov

Just one week after returning him to junior, Detroit has signed Evgeny Svechnikov to a three-year, entry-level deal.

Svechnikov, 18, was the Red Wings’ first-round pick (19th overall) at this year’s draft, which came on the heels of a 32-goal, 78-point performance in QMJHL Cape Breton last season, over just 55 games.

The Russian forward has looked equally good, if not better, in his second year with the Screaming Eagles — through three games this year, he already has six points.
