Andrew Hammond was supposed to get the start in Thursday’s game in Montreal, but a groin injury will keep him out.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury during the morning skate, and the team isn’t sure how serious it is.

“Hammond isn’t going. He tweaked a groin,” head coach Dave Cameron said on Thursday morning. “Tweaked groin is all I know. I have no time limit on it ... I haven’t talked to anybody. I got the information relayed to me.”

The Hamburglar was a big reason why the Senators were able to sneak into the playoffs last season. After being recalled from the AHL, Hammond went on a 14-0-1 stretch from Feb. 18-Mar. 23.

He opened the playoffs as the team’s starter, but was quickly replaced with Craig Anderson.

Because of Hammond’s injury, the Sens have recalled Matt O’Connor from their AHL affiliate in Binghamton.

Anderson will be in goal for Ottawa tonight. He’s scheduled to play the entire game.
