Nashville pulled a bit of a surprise on Wednesday, sending former KHL sniper Steve Moses to its AHL affiliate in Milwaukee.

Moses, who set a KHL scoring record with 36 goals in 60 games last year, signed with Nashville this summer over a number of other suitors, in large part because the Preds offered a one-year, one-way, $1 million deal (which Moses eventually signed.)

The contract, however, gave no guarantees of sticking in Nashville -- only the $1 million was guaranteed, regardless of where Moses plays. The 26-year-old also didn’t require waivers to be sent to Milwaukee, which probably made GM David Poile’s decision much easier.

Prior to joining the Preds, Moses -- admittedly undersized at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds -- played three years in the KHL with Jokerit, following a four-year career at New Hampshire (and a brief eight-game cameo with the Rangers’ AHL affiliate).

In Tuesday’s exhibition loss to Columbus, Moses skated on the club’s top line alongside Mike Ribeiro and Filip Forsberg, filing the spot normally manned by James Neal.
