Report: Caps, Kuznetsov working on a 2-3 year extension

According to Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post, the Capitals and center Evgeny Kuznetsov are working on a bridge deal in the 2-3 year range.

Kuznetsov’s two-year, entry-level contract expired last week making him a restricted free agent.

“I think we have a good dialogue,” Kuznetsov’s agent Maxim Molliver said. “We’re motivated to get it done. We’re having good conversations with the Caps.”

The 23-year-old scored 11 goals and 26 assists in 80 regular season games last season. He added five goals and two assists in 14 playoff games.

Prewitt reports that the Caps extended Kuznetsov a $945,000 qualifying offer and believes his raise could be as high as $3 million.

Molliver doesn’t expect Washington to file for club-elected arbitration before today’s 5 p.m. ET deadline.

“We just need to come to an agreement,” Molliver said. “Hopefully we’ll get it done shortly.”
