Though the breakup’s been a long time coming, San Jose and Adam Burish are officially calling it quits.
On Friday, the Sharks waived the veteran forward for the purpose of buying out his contract, per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. The 32-year-old was heading into the last of a four-year, $7.4 million pact signed with San Jose in 2012.
It was clear by actions taken this season that San Jose was no longer interested in keeping the grinding winger’s services. Burish was waived in November and, upon clearing, got dispatched to the American League, where he spent the remainder of the year.
All told he played in just 20 NHL contests this year, scoring a goal and three points.
Burish was carrying a $1.85 million cap hit and, per Capfriendly, the buyout will result in a hit of $616K this year and the next.
