Over the weekend columnist Larry Brooks called a trade involving Cam Talbot ahead of next week’s NHL Draft “the safest bet”.

Hockey insider Darren Dreger has as many as six teams interested in the goaltender’s services.

Dreger reports the Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames have some interest in the 27-year-old.

Talbot finished the 2014-15 season with a 21-9-4 record to go along with a 2.21 G.A.A. and a .926 save percentage in 36 appearances.

He is owed $1.45 million for next season before becoming an unrestricted free agent.

As for who would back-up Henrik Lundqvist next season, it’s unlikely that Mackenzie Skapski will earn that role.

The 21-year-old made two appearances during the 2014-15 season going 2-0-0 with a 0.50 G.A.A. and a .978 save percentage, but both starts came against the Buffalo Sabres.

Furthermore, Skapski will likely miss the start of the 2015-16 season recovering from hip surgery.

There are as many as 29 goaltenders set to become unrestricted free agents next month, according to Generalfanager.com. New York should be able to ink a relatively cheap back-up, with NHL experience, for 2015-16.
